National Museum of Women in the Arts

Description

NMWA offers Free Community Days on the first Sunday and second Wednesday of each month. Visitors can explore the museum’s collection and current exhibitions without paying admission.

Family Activities

  • Open Studios: drop-in, hands-on art-making activities inspired by artists and works in the museum.
  • Explore the museum’s collection and exhibitions.
  • Activities are open to visitors of all ages.

Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Why families may love it

  • Completely free on Community Day.
  • Unlike a traditional museum visit, Open Studios gives children something hands-on to do.
  • Families can choose how long to stay rather than committing to a scheduled one-hour program.

Good to know

There is also another Free Community Day on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, 10 AM–5 PM. The museum’s page currently lists both dates.

For older children and teens, NMWA also offers Firsthand Experience workshops for ages 13+, combining hands-on art-making with conversations and discovery.

Best For

Families with elementary-age children through teens, especially children who like art and making things.

Cost: FREE on Community Day.
