Celebrate the Smithsonian’s newest Asian elephant calf, Linh Mai, during EleFest, a three-day celebration of elephants, culture, conservation, and community leading up to World Elephant Day. Families can spend the weekend exploring the Zoo while enjoying elephant-themed activities, cultural performances, hands-on stations, animal demonstrations, keeper talks, and educational programs about elephant care and conservation.

Saturday’s activities include National Zoo Elephant Day, where visitors can meet veterinarians, talk with elephant keepers and curators, learn how the Zoo plans meals for its elephants, and create thank-you postcards for the elephant care team. Families can also enjoy traditional Thai dance performances and elephant-themed storytimes and activities from DC Public Library.

Sunday features a community chalk mural with Chalk Riot and a South Indian dance performance and interactive workshop from Rhythmaya Dance Group.

• The main festival activities are Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• A free Zoo Entry Pass is required for admission

• The EleFest Happy Hour on Friday is adults-only (21+), so it is not a family event
• Yoga With Elephants is a separate ticketed program recommended for ages 12 and up
• Public transportation is recommended, with Metro and bus stops within walking distance
