Why families love it
• Free activity in downtown DC
• Lots of games, so children and adults can choose something they enjoy
• Good mix of board games, strategy games, trivia, and video games
• Chess, Mahjong, dominoes, and other games provide opportunities for kids to practice strategy and social skills
• Music and a casual outdoor setting make it more than just a traditional game event
• Easy to reach by Metro—the Gallery Place-Chinatown Station is nearby
⚠️ Good to know
• Registration is required, even though admission is free.
• It runs for up to 5 hours, so families can come for only part of the afternoon.
• This is an urban outdoor event rather than a traditional park festival, so expect a lively downtown atmosphere.
• If your child enjoys chess, Mahjong, cards, board games, or video games, this is likely to be particularly appealing.
Best For
Families with elementary-age children, tweens, and teens, especially kids who enjoy games, puzzles, competition, and social activities. It is also a good choice for families looking for a free indoor/outdoor-style activity without having to commit to a long performance or festival.
