Step back in time at Fort Stevens Day, a family-friendly event commemorating the Battle of Fort Stevens—the only Civil War battle fought in Washington, D.C., and the only time a sitting U.S. president came under enemy fire.

Visitors can experience history through living history demonstrations, Civil War reenactors, period music, storytelling, historical interpreters, and interactive exhibits that bring the Civil War Defenses of Washington to life. Families can also pick up a Civil War Camp Activity Card, complete hands-on challenges at activity stations, collect stickers, meet historical figures, and earn a special Fort Stevens Day keepsake after completing the activities.
