McLean School

Description: A free early literacy screening program designed to help families better understand their child’s reading development and identify possible reading challenges early. McLean School offers 30-minute Acadience Reading Screenings for students in kindergarten through grade 3.

The screening evaluates foundational reading skills that are closely connected to future reading success, including phonological awareness, letter-sound recognition, reading fluency, word identification, memory for sounds, and reading comprehension. The goal is to identify whether a child’s reading skills are above, at, or below grade level so families can better understand if additional support may be helpful.

The sessions are led by McLean’s literacy specialists and are rooted in evidence-based “Science of Reading” practices and structured literacy approaches often used to support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
