Why families love it

• Free outdoor activity in Washington, DC

• Great opportunity to learn about wetlands, plants, wildlife, and the Anacostia River environment

• Guided by knowledgeable naturalists and park rangers

• Educational without being a traditional classroom activity

• Good choice for children who enjoy animals, nature, and exploring outdoors

⚠️ Good to know

• This is an outdoor walking activity, so comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.

The islands are open from dawn to dusk.

• Parking is available at the RFK Stadium Lot 6 entrance; the Benning Road entrance is for pedestrians and has no parking. Meet at the RFK Lot 6 Island Entrance (575 Oklahoma Ave NE).

• The event is only 1½ hours, making it easy to combine with another DC activity afterward. Please register in advance. Contact Weekend Ranger Talia Linneman at TLinneman@livingclassroomsdc.org with any questions.
