National Air and Space Museum

Description:
Innovations in Flight is the National Air and Space Museum’s signature aviation event, bringing together more than 60 vintage, modern, military, commercial, and civilian aircraft for a one-day outdoor display. Visitors can get up close to aircraft flown in specifically for the event, meet pilots and aviation professionals, and learn about the engineering and technology behind flight. The 2026 theme, “The Need for Speed,” explores what makes aircraft fast and the challenges of breaking speed barriers.

In addition to the outdoor aircraft display, families can enjoy hands-on educational activities, aviation demonstrations, STEM experiences, drone-related programs, and opportunities to explore aircraft cockpits and cabins. Many of the participating aircraft are only available for public viewing during this special event.
