Description: One of Washington, DC’s most popular summer traditions, Jazz in the Garden returns in 2026 with the theme “American Sounds,” celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary through music. Set in the beautiful Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery of Art, the series showcases a wide variety of American musical traditions, including Appalachian folk, Americana, blues, jazz, salsa, brass band music, rhythm and blues, and contemporary styles.

Guests can spread out on the lawn, enjoy live music surrounded by world-class sculptures, and purchase refreshments from the Pavilion Café. Outside picnics are welcome, making this one of the city’s favorite outdoor family events.

The May 29 concert features The Fly Birds, an award-winning all-female trio from Virginia known for their rich harmonies and blend of Appalachian, Americana, and folk music. Visitors can also participate in a free pre-show dance lesson led by professional choreographer Chitra Subramanian.

Because of the event’s popularity, attendance is managed through a lottery system. Visitors may request up to four passes during the lottery period, and a limited number of walk-up passes are distributed at the Sculpture Garden entrances beginning at 5:00 PM on concert days.

Date & Time: Fridays, May 22 – August 14, 2026 (except June 5 and July 3), 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
