Description

NMAAHC is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a three-day community weekend called β€œWelcome Home: Our Legacy Continues.” The museum will have music, dance, art, family activities, food, and community programs throughout the weekend.

Family Activities

Sunday, September 27

  • πŸ’ƒ Dance Activities with Dance Dimensions β€” 11 AM–12 PM, 1–2 PM, and 3–4 PM; interactive dance experiences.
  • 🎨 Paint, Scoop and Preserve: Make Sweet Memories β€” 12–3 PM, ages 7+; painting activity connecting food, memories, and family traditions.
  • 🌳 Public Genealogy Sessions β€” 1–4 PM; families can explore their family history.

Why families may love it

  • Lots of variety: art, music, dance, history, and hands-on activities rather than just museum viewing.
  • Multiple age groups: there are activities specifically for ages 3–8 and 7+, while other programs welcome everyone.
  • Especially good for a family museum day: you can combine a scheduled activity with exploring the museum’s exhibits.
  • The anniversary weekend is designed specifically to bring families and the broader community together.

Good to know

  • Some activities have registration, while genealogy sessions are first-come, first-served.
  • The museum’s 10th-anniversary celebration is larger than this one event, continuing at The Wharf on Sunday with Violet Vibes, a free community celebration.

Best For

Families with children of different ages who enjoy combining history and culture with hands-on art, music, dance, and community activities.

Cost: FREE for the daytime community programming.
